Workshop – Wildlife Tracking

February 6 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

$15 – $35

Wildlife Tracks & Sign: A skill set for noninvasive wildlife monitoring

Sara Lamar, Swan Valley Connections

Max Capacity (25)

Cost ($35 professional, $15 student) – lunch provided!

Identification of wildlife tracks and sign is a practical skill set for wildlife biologists that isn’t often formally taught in wildlife biology programs. Correctly interpreting tracks and sign can not only confirm an animal’s presence but also reveal behavior, habitat use, inter and intra-species interactions, and more. This workshop will cover common gait patterns, foot morphology, scat identification and common sign such as scent marking and feeding behavior. We will spend a few hours in the classroom building foundation knowledge and then apply these skills in the field for the rest of the afternoon. Snowshoes will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own if preferred.
